THE Environment Agency is warning residents along the Northwest coastline to be prepared for potential flooding this evening and into the weekend due to unusually high tides.  

Currently, 4 flood warnings and 10 flood alerts are in place across the region.

Flood warnings are currently in effect for:- 

  • Wyre estuary at Thornton, affecting Nestleton, Underbank Rd, Aylesbury House and Silcock's Cottages 

  • Lancashire coastline at Sunderland, around Sunderland Point, Bazil Point and Potts Corner 

  • Mersey Estuary at Arpley Bridge, Warrington 

  • Preesall, Poulton-Le-Fylde, Lancashire 

 
Residents in affected areas are urged to stay informed and take precautions to ensure their safety.

Key safety advice includes:- 

  • Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters:- Just 30 cm of water can float a car 

  • Stay safe:- Keep away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. 

  • Move valuables to higher ground:- If your property is at risk, take steps to protect it 

  • Stay updated:- Keep an eye on flood warnings and alerts
