MEN’S mental health charity, Mersey Mind Project, is expanding its successful Mersey Football Therapy programme with a brand-new weekly session at Marine FC.

Launching on:- Monday, 24 August 2026, Mersey Football Therapy Liverpool will give men from across Merseyside the opportunity to make new friends, improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and enjoy a casual game of football — all completely free of charge.

The sessions will take place every Monday from:- 8pm until 9pm on Marine FC’s all-weather pitch. Games will be played in a friendly 9-a-side format, with men of all abilities welcome. There is no need to be an experienced footballer or at peak fitness. The sessions are designed to be relaxed, inclusive and enjoyable, with the focus firmly on connection rather than competition.

The programme follows the proven success of Mersey Football Therapy on the Wirral, which has brought men together through a shared love of football while providing a supportive environment in which friendships can develop naturally. The charity have played games at Goodison Park, Prenton Park and have plans to play at Hill Dickinson and Anfield next year.

Mersey Mind Project understands that attending something new can sometimes feel daunting, particularly when you do not know anybody. That is why charity representatives will be on hand to welcome every participant and make the experience as comfortable as possible. Through football, cycling, personal training, drop in talk sessions and other activities, the charity is tackling loneliness and isolation, whilst breaking the stigma of men’s mental health.

Chris Guy, Chairman of Mersey Mind Project, said:- “We’ve seen through Mersey Football Therapy on the Wirral just how powerful football can be in bringing men together. Spearheaded by our trustee, Eddie Morgan, which has created a non-judgemental environment. Not every man feels comfortable sitting in a room and talking about how he feels, but many will come along for a game of football. The football breaks down barriers, helps friendships form and gives men something positive to look forward to each week. We’re delighted to be bringing the programme to Liverpool and growing our partnership with Marine FC even more.”

An official sign-up evening will take place at Marine FC on:- Monday, 24 August from 8pm. Anyone interested can come along, meet representatives from Mersey Mind Project, learn more about the sessions and register to take part. Football sessions then take place every Monday at 8pm. Whether you want to improve your fitness, meet new people, support your mental wellbeing or simply enjoy playing football again, Mersey Football Therapy Liverpool is ready to welcome you.
